Tesla’s New Easter Egg Is A Flashing Rainbow Car Port

First, there was the the iconic submarine from the James Bond classic “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Then there was the “” If you thought that had run out of Easter eggs for its growing number of models, you might have to reconsider that train of thought. Another entertaining Easter egg has surfaced and this one is as cool and as colorful as the rainbow road that can be accessed through the function.

The new Easter egg can be found in the car’s electric port. In normal settings, the port emits a blue glow; we knew that already. What we didn’t know was that the port can be turned into a splash of colorful cars when the button on the charging cable is clicked 10 successive times. Do that and the port starts glowing in different colors, pulsating for a few second before returning back to its normal configuration. The new feature reportedly comes with the latest software update. Tesla has yet to confirm the existence of this Easter egg, but we’ve seen enough videos from owners to see that it actually works.

Ultimately, the rainbow car port doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. It’s not going to make the run faster or improve its battery range. But like most Easter eggs, it’s a way for Tesla to connect to its customers with these little secrets that are fun to discover. Judging by the increasing frequency of these Easter eggs, don’t be surprised if there are others that have yet to be discovered. Gesture steering, perhaps?
