While the gets to kick off the New Year in the heart of Motor City, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) is every bit as essential. After all, NYIAS lays claim to being the first real auto show in the U.S., with a history that stretches all the way back to the turn of the 20th century. In many ways, this annual event helped birth the modern American car, providing a venue for the presentation of the first models from staples like and New York was also one of the first destinations for foreign automakers looking to reach U.S. customers, with brands like and originally heading to Manhattan in the hopes of scooping up stateside sales.
